Gears on bicycles have been around for over a hundred years and every bike has some sort of gear system even if it is a single gear. Mathematically gear ratios are obtained by taking the number of teeth in the rear sproket and dividing it into the number of teeth in the front sprocket and mutiplying it by the diameter of your wheel. This will give you the distance you would travel on level ground without coasting.

Low gears make it easier to ride up steep hills and high gears make it faster going downhill. Racers make a constant number of revolutions with the crank, pedals, and adjust the bicycle’s gears to accomodate the terrain which s/he is travelling. New racing and casual bicycles come with gearing as high as eight chainrings in the rear sprocket and up to three on the front sprocket giving you a total of up to twenty four possible gears to utilize during your ride.

Most casual riders will use these gears in a limited way hardly getting off the middle sprocket in the front. One should experiment with his/her gearing to get comfortable with how useful and powerful the bike can be when it’s used to its capacity.

An increase in bicycle riding speed is what helps riders to win races. Technological advancements in the design and efficiency of bicycles give riders that increase in speed that they desire. In order to take advantage this technology, you need to have a basic understanding of where it is applied.

Less weight is an advantage that has been pursued since the Italians first introduced light weight aluminum bicycle frames. The speed of many bikes today is the result of incorporating carbon fiber and lighter aluminum composites into the overall frame, handlebars, seat stem and front fork. However, the weight is only part of what makes a bike fast.

To truly produce speed, a rider must efficiently transfer their muscle power to the rear tire’s propulsion. This is accomplished by optimizing the gear ration between the crank and a rear cog. The induction of multiple gears was originally intended to give bicyclists a mechanical advantage while allowing them to maintain the same number of peddle rotations per minute, which increases speed in climbing.

Speed is also achieved by conforming the rider’s body to an aerodynamic position to avoid wind resistance. The use of aerodynamic-handlebars and narrower seats facilitates this speed advantage.

Bike racers know that they need to prepare for the races. Serious racers know that a year-round regimen helps them compete. They cannot just start the training a week before the month of the race. They need to have an exercise bike for the colder months and a traditional bike for the warmer months. The traditional bike should resemble the type of bike they will run.

The bicycle is necessary for the person who wants to race, but it is not the only part of the process. A weight lifting regimen helps people maintain muscle mass and gives the cyclist extra muscle mass. The extra muscle mass will let the cyclist press down on the pedals harder and faster.

Part of any cyclist’s training regimen must help the user get used to his chosen bicycle. A mountain biker will have to get used to the controls of the human powered vehicle. The shifters on a mountain bike are not the same as the gears found on a street bicycle. The mountain bike also has different gears. The mountain bike is designed to make it easier to climb hills. The street bicycle’s shifting is designed to increase the speed of the bicycle.

It’s going to be an uphill battle but it’s a great sport to sink your effort intohere are some tips for the amateur street bike adventurer who’s getting up there.
Start Slow: There’s no reason you should feel like you have to start off at Lance Armstrong pacetake it nice and easy and try to ride daily, if possible. Make it a few minutes longer each day and gradually increase your stamina.
Ride With a Partner: It’s best to learn if you’ve got help from someone who knows the sport. Talk to a professional trainer or even work with a friend who’s more experienced so you can get the best education.
Sign Up for a Race: There’s nothing to motivate you like knowing you’ve got to perform in front of people so sign up for an amateur race and get yourself going. If you know you’ve got to work well later, you’ll work harder now.

With the Tour De France underway many riders are getting their cycles out in order to practice their skills and begin cycling competitively. In order to be able to compete certain tips are needed and should be used to bring a person into the perfect condition and readiness for any bike race or event.

The essential items every cyclist needs are a bike, hydration, a proper helmet, proper clothing, racing shows, and gloves. Without this equipment it is nearly impossible to partake in any racing event as most organizers have certain requirements and standards that must be abided to by all entrants.

The bike selected needs to be a road bike for any road cycling race and it is preferable to find one that weighs the least amount possible so as to make riding easier and faster. The more a bike weights the more a person will have to carry around. All protective equipment provides protection against slips and falls and hydration is essential to protect a person from hitting a wall stamina wise, or growing extremely fatigued.

Implement all these items and ideas and a successful cycling race can be undergone in no time. Just remember to practice as practice in cycling really does make perfect!

If you have been looking for a way to enjoy the races and you are tired of some of the more structured races, then you need to know about drag racing. Drag racing is more popular in the U.S. In this kind of race, two drivers race against each other on a long stretch. Whoever finishes first is the winner. You should however know that drag racing especially the street races in the U.S is illegal. As much as most of the drag races in the U.S are illegal, you can get some legal races. The legal races are great for they bring something to the race fans. The rules are a little bit less strict and drivers get to showcase their prowess and stunts. Most of the drag races allow the drivers to stock their cars with custom parts, for speed, power, and even glamour. If you want to see some of the most pimped up vehicles in the world, then attend the drag race events.
There are some professional drag races that will feature super stock class, Pro FWD class, and even Top Alcohol Dragster among other race classes. Do not pass a chance to catch up on the fun and exhilarating feel that comes with the races!

Bike racing is something that almost anyone can enjoy, whether they are an amateur or a professional. While the sport may not be as popular as other sports, it allows people to receive a lot of benefits. However, may new riders become discouraged after watching how easy the professional riders make the sport look. There are several tips that people can follow to learn how to ride like a professional.

The first thing to work on is endurance. No one ever had the endurance to ride professional distances the first day they got on a bike. Professionals perform several exercises to increase their level of endurance, which is one of the things that makes their technique look so effortless. Professionals will typically work on riding for pace, while other times they will focus on sprinting for shorter distances.

Professional riders also spend a substantial amount of time in the gym. It is important to have strong legs, as well as a strong core for the hilly terrains. Biking should be a whole body movement, not just pedaling the legs as fast as possible.

Amateurs can quickly increase their speed and endurance by following a workout regimen. They will find that increased body strength, along with proper cardiovascular training will substantially increase their riding abilities.
